Application of Smart Skin Sensors on railway tracks for train detection and axle counting, Strambino (TO)
A trial, with TEKFER srl and under RFI supervision, of Smart Skin Sensors applied directly to the tracks to identify trains and individual axles.
- Client
- TEKFER srl, under the supervision of RFI
- Location
- Strambino (TO), Italy
- Sector
- Railway
The trial was conducted in collaboration with TEKFER srl, a leading company in the design and manufacture of railway signalling systems, under the direct supervision of RFI.
The tests were carried out on several occasions, testing the response of the InSensus Project Smart Skin Sensors applied directly to the railway tracks in a matter of minutes using two-component methacrylate structural adhesives, and recording the response to passing trains at different frequencies, thereby identifying with extreme precision even each individual axle of the train itself, and effectively paving the way for the development of new-generation, low-cost sensors to be integrated into existing systems.
